A physics-based puzzle platformer where your world is made of waves!
About the Game
Welcome to the world of HERTZ, where sound wave physics become reality. Your platforms aren't solid! They're sine waves that you can manipulate using the principles of wave interference (audio masking!!). Master destructive and constructive interference to solve increasingly complex puzzles!
Created in less than 72 hours for Winter MelonJam 2025 (theme: "mask"), this game explores the concept of audio masking: when sound waves interfere with each other, either canceling out or amplifying.
How to Play
MOVEMENT:
- A/D or Arrow Keys - Move
- SPACE - Jump
- MOUSE - Click and drag waves
MECHANICS:
- Inverse Waves (cyan) - Use destructive interference to cancel out platforms
- Amplify Waves (orange) - Use constructive interference to make platforms bigger (stackable!)
- Square Waves - Moving platforms that push you along
OBJECTIVES:
- Collect the KEY
- Reach the PORTAL
- Avoid spikes and falling!
The Science Behind It
Audio masking occurs when one sound makes another sound harder to hear. When sound waves overlap, they interfere:
- Destructive interference (opposite phases) = waves cancel out
- Constructive interference (same phase) = waves amplify
This is the same physics behind noise-canceling headphones! In HERTZ, you manipulate wave platforms using these exact principles.
